Yu Darvish Affected By Shorter Rest

Yu Darvish has been both frustrating and brilliant at times this season. We know that Darvish can be among the league's elite starting pitchers, but he's not been able to find any type of consistency this year, often struggling mightily with his command.

It turns out that the United States' pitching routine is affecting Darvish. In Japan, Darvish had five days' rest between his starts, which is an extra day compared to the majors.

"There was some fatigue that I was feeling," Darvish said. "I don't know if I was aware of that. Just getting this time off has helped me out a lot. My body feels better."

Hopefully the skipped start will aid Darvish on Friday night against the Astros. I'd bet heavily that Darvish bounces back and dominates a lineup that was on the wrong side of history on Wednesday.

We'll see if this is a problem all year long, but hopefully Darvish and the training staff can come up with adjustments that don't require skipping a start often.
