With Opening Day looming around the corner, the Texas Rangers had some difficult roster decisions to make. Ron Washington made some of those decisions on Monday, as the Rangers moved one step closer to finalizing their 2012 Opening Day roster.
With Josh Hamilton set to be the team's center fielder, the Rangers decided to keep only one of Craig Gentry and Julio Borbon on the team. Washington picked Gentry, as Borbon was optioned today to AAA Round Rock.
The Rangers have also picked their utility infielder. Alberto Gonzalez will serve as Texas' backup infielder to start the season. Consequently, Luis Hernandez will be sent to AAA Round Rock.
Perhaps the biggest surprise so far is the inclusion of Brandon Snyder on the Opening Day roster. Snyder doesn't offer too much off the bench, but he will serve as a utility player an emergency catcher.
Texas' bullpen is the only part of the club yet to be finalized.
