Rangers Vs. Mariners Final: Michael Young Shines In 5-3 Win

With most of the lineup struggling against Seattle starter Jason Vargas, Michael Young took over, going 3-4 with a HR and four RBI in Texas 5-3 win over the Mariners on Thursday afternoon.

Young outscored Seattle's offense by himself, as the Mariners were kept in check all series long by the Rangers pitching staff.

Derek Holland continued that trend, going 7.1 innings with 8 strikeouts and 0 walks. Working efficiently through the line-up, the 25-year old left-hander threw 79 of his 115 pitches for strikes.

For the most part, Vargas had a strong day as well. The only Rangers starters who had hits were Young, Ian Kinsler and Yorvit Torrealba. Elvis Andrus was given the day off as Alberto Gonzalez got his first at-bats of the season at SS while Craig Gentry got the call in CF.

With Joe Nathan and Alexi Ogando not able to throw, Ron Washington used Koji Uehara and Mike Adams to close out the game.

The win moves the Rangers to 5-2 and drops the Mariners to 4-4. Texas travels to Minnesota to begin a three-game series with the Twins on Friday.
