Roy Oswalt Waiting Until Midseason To Sign

Roy Oswalt's story just won't go away. Oswalt's agent Bob Garber announced on Tuesday that his client is going to stay in shape as he hopes to pitch for a contending team later this season. The thought all along is that Oswalt would sign either with the Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals or Texas Rangers, and preferred to pitch either for St. Louis or Texas. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman tweeted earlier today that Oswalt still would like to pitch for either St. Louis or Texas, but, neither have a rotation opening currently.

This seems like it's good news for the Rangers. Ron Washington won't have to deal with any extra rotation controversy during the spring, and Jon Daniels will be able to bring Oswalt in if one of Texas' starters gets hurt throughout the season.

Of course, it's equally good news for the Cardinals, who, won't have to deal with the exact same controversies, though St. Louis' rotation isn't as deep as Texas' (I'm looking at you, Jake Westbrook).
