Jim Bowden over at ESPN offered up five trades that he believes would benefit contenders and rebuilders alike, and one of them involves the Texas Rangers.
Unfortunately for Bowden, the suggest trade is foolish. Fortunately for the Rangers, Jim Bowden is not the GM of the Rangers. Bowden suggests that the Rangers trade Martin Perez to the Twins for Denard Span. Here is his rationale:
↵↵From the Rangers' perspective, this would allow them to move Josh Hamilton to left field and improve their defense in center. Span also would give them a legitimate leadoff hitter and a better chance to win the World Series now than if they waited for Leonys Martin to develop.
↵
Uh, no. How long does Martin need to develop for, and, is that development time worth Perez? No. The past two seasons, Span has posted an on base average of .331 and .328. Hardly what any team wants out of the leadoff spot.
↵Adam Morris over at Lone Star Ball gave some thoughts on this, and I agree with pretty much everything he said. Check it out and join the discussion.
