Rangers ZiPS are out

Dan Szymborski released his projections for the 2013 Rangers over at FanGraphs, and Texas' projections illustrate the need for another bat in the lineup.

Dan Szymborski's ZiPS projections have been appearing over at FanGraphs this year, and on Friday, the 2013 Texas Rangers ZiPS were released.

At first blush, Texas' projections are pretty underwhelming, especially on offense. Only four players project to have an OPS+ over 100 (Adrian Beltre, Ian Kinsler, Nelson Cruz and David Murphy), and Murphy is best suited for a platoon role.

Uber prospect Jurickson Profar projects for the third-highest WAR (wins above replacement) among Texas position players, trailing only Kinsler and Beltre. Needless to say, that's quite the lofty projection for Profar, especially considering he doesn't turn 20 until February.

ZiPS seems to like Texas' pitchers -- or at least Yu Darvish, Matt Harrison and Alexi Ogando. ZiPS expects Ogando to post a WAR of 3.4 in just 135 and 1/3 innings. Certainly, the Rangers and Rangers fans would take that.

If anything, the 2013 Rangers ZiPS illustrate that the Rangers need to acquire another bat before the offseason is over, and that Texas' staff, once healthy, will be just fine.
