Rangers rumors roundup

It's still possible for the Rangers to sign Josh Hamilton and trade for Justin Upton, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Another day, another plethora of rumors surrounding the Texas Rangers, and what they'll do to further tweak the 2013 version of the team.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported that the Rangers have interest in signing free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who is coming off an excellent year. Pierzynski hit .278/.326/.501 for the White Sox in 2012, while belting 27 home runs. Signing Pierzynski would push Geovany Soto into a backup role -- which is where he frankly belongs at this point.

Rosenthal also noted that the Rangers could end up signing Josh Hamilton and trading for Justin Upton. If both do occur, the Rangers would have a lineup that features, at the least, Adrian Beltre, Hamilton, Upton, Elvis Andrus, Ian Kinsler and Nelson Cruz -- not too shabby.

Lastly, Rosenthal believes that a trade for R.A. Dickey is unlikely -- and from the reports that have come out from the New York media lately, which state that the Mets want Michael Olt and more, that seems like a good non-move for the Rangers. Texas already has four pitchers who range from excellent to above average in the rotation as it stands, and can likely skirt by with Martin Perez until Colby Lewis is healthy.
