Zack Greinke is Dodgers' top target

Zack Greinke, this winter's top free agent, is reportedly the Los Angeles Dodgers' top target this winter.

Zack Greinke might not have to move too far next year if he decides against re-signing with the Los Angeles Angels.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, Greinke is the Los Angeles Dodgers' top target this winter, as Los Angeles' new ownership continues to look for ways to improve their team, and return to October baseball.

Heyman notes that the Dodgers' primary competition for Greinke's services will come from the Angels and the Texas Rangers.

The Angels have made it clear early in the offseason that re-signing Greinke is a priority. Los Angeles traded Ervin Santana to Kansas City, and declined Dan Haren's option, just to clear money for Greinke. If the Angels come up empty handed, they'll have plenty of holes in a rotation that would feature Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson and a few question marks.

The Rangers, meanwhile, lurk in the background of Greinke rumors. Assuming Texas let Josh Hamilton walk in free agency, which looks more apparent by the day, the Rangers will have plenty of money to play with this offseason -- and could easily throw it in Greinke's direction.

If the Dodgers have sincere interest in Greinke, then they'll almost certainly become the clear front runner for Greinke. Los Angeles' new ownership has been on a spending spree ever since taking over the team, acquiring Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett from the Boston Red Sox, re-signing Brandon League to an excessive contract, and winning the posting bids for Hyun-Jin Ryu.
