With the departure of Josh Hamilton seeming more and more likely for the Rangers, one potential replacement that is being talked about as a possibility is Red Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury.
While still a rumor, the Chicago Tribune reports there may be a potential trade to send Ellsbury to the Rangers in exchange for pitcher Derek Holland. Ellsbury made his debut with the Red Sox in 2007 and has been a consistent contributor since.
He earned an All-Star selection in 2011 and a Golden Glove, but struggled in 2012 as injuries cut his season in jalf and his batting averaged dropped from .321 in 2011 to .271 in 2012. His home runs dropped from 32 to just four.
Hamilton had better numbers for the 2012 season, but a poor finish to the season, including an 0-for-4 performance with two strikeouts in a wild card game against the Orioles soured the fans on the former AL MVP.
