Rangers Notes On Napoli, Fielder And Darvish

Rangers fans that are hoping that the club sign Prince Fielder to a contract this winter may be disappointed. Per T.R. Sullivan, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels shed some light on Texas' offseason plans going forward. Daniels said that the Rangers are not interested in signing Fielder to a contract this winter, and instead have their attention focused on signing Yu Darvish.

Daniels also ruled out reaching a long-term deal with catcher Mike Napoli this winter. Instead, the club will look to avoid arbitration and come to a one-year deal with Napoli.

That the Rangers aren't interested in Fielder isn't surprising at all. Texas just spent over $50 million dollars just to negotiate with Darvish. Presumably, Darvish is going to command a five or six year deal that will require a considerable financial commitment. Adding Fielder on top of that just doesn't seem likely, especially with Josh Hamilton's contract set to expire after 2012 and Ian Kinsler's contract set to expire after 2013.
