David Murphy homered off of Justin Masterson in the second inning to give Rangers a 1-0 lead in an important pennant race matchup with the Indians. The solo shot was Murphy’s tenth of the season as he continued his late-season surge.
The Rangers also threatened in the first with a lead-off walk by Ian Kinsler, who then stole second base. He was picked off and thrown at at third base, though, making Josh Hamilton and Michael Young singles for naught.
Matt Harrison is through three scoreless innings for the Rangers as they try to fend off the Angels in the AL West.
