Jurickson Profar Named Sally League MVP

Per the Rome News-Tribune (hat tip: Lone Star Ball) Rangers man, myth, legend, and shortstop prospect Jurickson Profar was named the MVP of the Single A South Atlantic League today for his work with the Hickory Crawdads.

In 494 plate appearances, Profar has put forth a .285/.393/.488 line, with 11 home runs, and a very sexy 64/61 BB/K rate. Already considered a very good prospect, Profar's season has launched him in to conversation as one of the most elite lower level prospects in baseball, and is chief among many things Rangers fans can be excited about beyond the excellent product put forth on the Major League field.

Speaking in terms of more detailed stats, the excellent site StatCorner has Profar's offense at a .409 wOBA this season. When adjusted for ballpark, that comes out to .412, which ranks as the second best offensive performance in the Sally League this season, behind Adam Duvall, who is not a shortstop. His regressed .396 wOBA is still shiny (again: SHORTSTOP), and just because they list it, he put forth 5.3 wins above replacement before even attempting to factor in his defense. All this matches the excellent scouting reports that surround him, as well as helps justify how impressed with him the Rangers must have been to have made him a teenage millionaire.

Excited yet?
