Brandon Webb Likely Out For Season

Brandon Webb is likely going to miss the remainder of the season thanks to a shoulder injury. The injury is apparently to Webb's rotator cuff, which might end up requiring surgery.

Webb hasn't appeared in the major leagues since 2009, and it will be at least until 2012 if he does appear in them ever again. Before being scratched from his last start with shoulder discomfort, Webb had been battered around at AAA while on his rehab assignment. Webb allowed 21 hits in 12 innings - good for a .404 batting average against. Further, Webb only struck out eight AAA hitters while walking six of them, good for a 2.25 WHIP.

The Rangers signed Webb hoping that they could get something out of him, but unfortunately, they will get nothing out of their three million dollar investment. It was a risk worth taking only guaranteeing Webb three million (with another five million in incentives). Texas similarly received next-to-nothing out of Rich Harden in 2010. Credit Jon Daniels for taking the chances, but this is just proof that lottery tickets seldom pan out.
