C.J. Wilson found out Sunday that he had been selected to the American League All-Star team for the first time. He’ll look to celebrate that honor by winning his ninth game of the season and sending the Rangers to a series win in Arlington against the Marlins. The Rangers scored 15 runs Friday to waltz to the win, but Florida knocked out starter Derek Holland in the first inning Saturday to even the series.
Wilson will oppose embattled Javier Vazquez, who has settled down in his past three starts to allow just two earned runs in 17.1 innings and post a 12:2 K:BB ratio. He’s currently riding a 12 inning scoreless streak.
The Rangers need a win to ensure sole possession of first place entering the last week before the all-star break. The Angels trail them by one game and face the Dodgers Sunday night.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
