Brandon Webb To Undergo Rotator Cuff Surgery

In the not-so-shocking news department today, Anthony Andro tweeted that Brandon Webb will undergo rotator cuff surgery on his right shoulder on August 1, ending his season and probably ending his career as a professional baseball player.

Webb never made it to the big leagues with the Texas Rangers, but did appear in AA with Frisco. Webb made four starts in AA, pitching 12 innings while surrendering 13 runs on 21 hits while walking six. He struck out only eight of the batters he faced as well.

It was a longshot that Webb would ever contribute to the 2011 Texas Rangers club. He won't, but it's not surprising and fans should not have counted on it to happen.

Webb's contract was only a one year deal worth three million guaranteed, with other incentives that obviously won't be reached. It was worth the gamble for Jon Daniels, but like Rich Harden in 2010, it simply didn't work out.
