Nolan Ryan Downplays Texas' Interest In New York Mets Players

Yesterday, Jon Heyman tweeted that the Texas Rangers were interested in both Carlos Beltran and Francisco Rodriguez of the New York Mets. It didn't take long for the Rangers to downplay those rumors. Nolan Ryan addressed the rumors on 103.3 FM's Galloway and Company.

"I can't believe that we have an interest in either," Ryan told 103.3 FM's Galloway and Company.

"I don't see that's an upgrade" to the Rangers' bullpen, Ryan said. "And Beltran, you worry about his knee. And you're taking on an awful lot of salary."

I can't say I disagree with Ryan's assessment. It would make some sense for the Rangers to acquire Beltran as a rental player - if they didn't already have Michael Young at designated hitter. Beltran has been fine in right field, but with his knees and the DH available, there's no sense in having him play everyday in the field.

As for K-Rod, well, I'd rather see the Rangers give Brandon Webb a shot at helping out the bullpen before him. And that's saying a lot, considering I'd rather see the Rangers give me a chance to pitch before Brandon Webb.
