Rangers Inquire About Heath Bell

The Texas Rangers have had bullpen problems this year - there's really no questioning that. Consequently, Jon Daniels and co. have been sniffing around the MLB for potential additions to the bullpen, including asking about San Diego closer Heath Bell

Several clubs -- including Texas, according to CBSSports.com sources -- have inquired recently about Bell. The Padres, not yet eager to pull the trigger, are in listen-only mode and, sources say, want to wait a little longer and see how things play out.

The Rangers, who recently inquired about Pittsburgh closer Joel Hanrahan, are described as simply checking their options while they, too, evaluate how the season develops.

Bell has been excellent ever since joining the Padres in 2007. In '07 and '08, Bell served as as a setup man before taking over as closer in 2009. Bell has struck out 350 in 328.1 innings since joining the Padres. There's no doubt that Bell would be an excellent addition to Texas' bullpen - but, as with anything, the price would dictate if it'd be worth trading for two months of Bell since he is eligible for free agency after the year ends.
