Rangers GM Jon Daniels revealed in a conference call that Josh Hamilton does in fact have a small nondisplaced fracture in his right shoulder. Hamilton will go on the disabled list and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.
Hamilton tried to score on a foul pop fly near the third base dugout. Tigers catcher Victor Hamilton retrieved the ball and raced Hamilton to home plate, tagging him out as Hamilton dove head first into home. Attempting to avoid the tag, Hamilton turned his dive to his side.
After the game Hamilton told reporters that he had been encouraged to take home by third base coach Dave Anderson, was wary of what could happen, but followed his coach’s instructions. Anderson said that he felt like the play stood a good chance of “stealing a run” with two outs.
Hamilton has been a frequent visitor to the disabled list over the past two years. In 2009 he played just 89 games, in in his MVP 2010, he missed 33 more games.
