Rangers Spring Training News: Webb, Borbon And Hunter

We're finally moving out of the depressing (read: worst) part of the sports calendar with Spring Training beginning. Not a moment too soon for me thanks to the Jets, but I digress.

There's some news out of Rangers camp already. Per Jeff Wilson, the Rangers plan to be "aggressively cautious" with Brandon Webb, who is still recovering from shoulder injuries. Webb will apparently throw off a mound every three days or so and could still begin the season in Texas' starting rotation.

Julio Borbon is locked in as Texas' starting centerfielder according to Evan Grant, who spoke with Ron Washington. Grant speculated that David Murphy may be given a chance to win the starting gig in center over Borbon, but Washington said that Borbon is the Rangers centerfielder.

Lastly, Tommy Hunter does not have his spot in the rotation sealed up. Colby Lewis and C.J. Wilson are the only two who have spots locked up - after them, it's fair game. Washington said that if Webb is actually healthy, he'll have a spot in the rotation. It does seem like a safe assumption that Hunter will be in the rotation come April - he'd likely have to have a dismal spring or suffer an injury.

I lied - lastly, here's something to laugh about. We all knew this was going to happen, but Rich Harden has been shut down for a few weeks due to injury. I would have set the over/under to say, I don't know, March 13. Harden was shut down on February 17 with stiffness in his lat area - anybody who would have taken the under, please claim your prize.
