Jaime Garcia's night was a short one as he was lifted by Cardinals manager Tony La Russa after just three innings of work. In to pitch for St. Louis is Fernando Salas.
The Cardinals defense behind Salas immediately let him down when Nelson Cruz lifted a fly ball to left that was misplayed by Matt Holiday and Rafael Furcal. Holiday was charged with an error on the play that allowed Cruz to reach second. As he has done most of the series, Mike Napoli stepped to the plate and made the Cardinals pay with an opposite field double that scored Cruz to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead.
Salas struck out Craig Gentry for the first out of the inning. Colby Lewis then bunted the ball back to Salas who airmailed the throw into center field. Everyone was safe but Napoli was injured as he rounded the bag at second. After being checked out by the trainer, Napoli stayed in the game. Salas then struck out Ian Kinsler and got Elvis Andrus to fly out to left to end the inning.
