Mitch Moreland's misplay in the field resulted in a Cardinals run in the second inning. Moreland got the Rangers that run back with a long home run into the right field upper deck off of Cardinals' starter Chris Carpenter.
Mike Napoli struck out swinging against Carpenter to start the inning. Moreland's blast followed on a 2-0 fastball that the Rangers' first baseman didn't miss. Carpenter got Ian Kinsler to pop out for the second out of the inning before surrendering a bunt single to Elvis Andrus. Josh Hamilton advanced Andrus to second with an opposite field single of his own before Michael Young grounded out to end the threat.
C.J. Wilson has allowed two hits and two runs through the first three innings with only one of those runs earned. He was able to pitch around another Texas error in the top half of the inning getting Matt Holiday to ground into an inning ending double play with runners at the corners.
