C.J. Wilson hadn't allowed a hit until the third inning against the Tigers. Unfortunately for Wilson and the Rangers, the first hit Wilson gave up was a home run. Alex Avila homered off of Wilson in the bottom of the third inning, tying Game 5 of the ALCS up, 1-1.
Avila has been having an awful postseason, as the home run represents just his third hit of postseason play. Further, Avila has struck out 14 in 34 at bats.
Texas' bats need to come back to life, as Justin Verlander has seemingly settled down. Verlander hasn't allowed a hit since the first inning, when Ian Kinsler doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Hamilton. Michael Young added a bases empty double later in the top of the first, before being stranded at second base.
