Rangers Vs. Tigers: Nelson Cruz Guns Down Miguel Cabrera At The Plate To End Eighth

Texas worked its way out of trouble in the bottom half of the eighth inning when Nelson Cruz nailed Miguel Cabrera at the plate on an attempted sacrifice fly that would have given the Tigers the lead. Instead the game now heads to the ninth with the score still tied 3-3.

After a scoreless top of the eighth by Tigers reliever Joaquin Benoit, Texas manager Ron Washington turned to Mike Adams to pitch the bottom half. Adams retired Ryan Raburn on a ground out to start the inning and then Washington called for an intentional walk to Miguel Cabrera with the bases empty and one out. Victor Martinez followed with a single to right that put runners at the corners with just one out for the Tigers.

Adams then coaxed a fly ball from Delmon Young that Nelson Cruz was able to measure in right and uncork a strike to the plate to nail Cabrera as he tried to score.
