Miguel Cabrera has given the Detroit Tigers the lead in Game 3 of the ALCS, after doubling to deep right field two strikes and two outs. Austin Jackson, who singled, scored the go-ahead run on the play.
That Colby Lewis pitched to Cabrera in that situation is questionable. It's certainly easy to second guess the decision, especially after the fact.
But Victor Martinez, who homered and injured himself in his last at bat, was standing on deck. The severty of Martinez' injury is still unknown. It's certainly possible that Martinez is indeed 100%, but it's also doubtful that he is. Walking Cabrera would have put another runner in scoring position, and given Lewis no room for error, but I'd still rather take my chances on Martinez than Cabrera -- especially with Martinez being injured.
Martinez would go on to draw a walk, so it's still unknown how healthy Martinez is. Lewis did escape the jam, getting Don Kelly to ground out to Adrian Beltre.
