The Texas Rangers missed out on Jim Thome earlier this month, who frankly didn't make much sense for the Rangers to add.
↵The Rangers are going after another high-profile free agent bat in the form of Manny Ramirez, according to ESPN Deportes and Enrique Rojas.
↵The article states:
↵
This translates to (thanks Google):
↵↵↵Anaheim, Minnesota, Texas, Tampa Bay and Toronto have shown some interest in Ramirez, but Angels, Rangers and Rays are the most aggressive have expressed in recent days and the Twins left the stage when re-signed Jim Thome last week.
↵
Ramirez' addition makes much more sense than Thome's would. Ramirez would provide a right handed bat to face lefties - spelling Moreland, Murphy or Borbon.
↵A lot likely depends on what kind of role Ramirez would be comfortable playing in. He's certainly not going to start in the outfield on a routine basis, but his addition could allow the Rangers to rest outfielders Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz when need be. As ridiculous as his antics are, he's still a pretty good hitter, as evidenced by his .409 OBP and .870 OPS.
