Thome: Rangers Offered More

Earlier today, I said this:

I hope they were more aggressive than the final numbers make it seem and that Thome just wanted to stay in Minnesota.

Now Ken Rosenthal says this:

Jim Thome said the Rangers offered him more money than the Twins. But for Thome, who on Friday signed a one-year, $3 million free-agent contract to return to Minnesota, there were more important considerations.

His teammates. His desire to remain in the AL Central. His fondness for Minnesota and the Twins’ organization.

Well, okay. That's fine. I'm glad the Rangers tried, and that's that. I would have liked to get Thome, but as I said earlier it wasn't necessarily a perfect fit, so it's no big deal, and it's nice to know it wasn't because they were unwilling to top $3 million.

Too bad, time to move on.
