The Angels Are Great, Miss Out On Rafael Soriano, Beltre And Crawford

Rafael Soriano has apparently signed with the Yankees for three years, $35 million and will set up Mariano Rivera for at least two of those years. I think they're overpaying a bit, but whatever, they're the Yankees and they have that luxury.

That Soriano signed with the Yankees is a bit funny, though. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Disney World have missed out on yet another free agent. The Angels originally had their wallet opened up for Carl Crawford, who spurned the Angels for the Boston Red Sox

That's ok, though. There's a premium third baseman on the market in Adrian Beltre. It seemed like the Angels were just bidding against themselves for a bit - and then the Rangers swooped in and signed Beltre.

Whoops.

So what is Anaheim left with? Amazingly, the Angels payroll is over $100,000,000. Torii Hunter will make $18.5 million each of the next two years. Dan Haren is the Angels' second highest paid player, and he's worth every penny of what he'll earn - Angels fans can thank Arizona there. After that, Scott Kazmir makes $12,000,000 and then Gary Matthews Junior will receive $11,400,000 from the Angels this year.

But hey, the Angels did sign Scott Downs. Mission Accomplished, I guess.
