Winter Meeting Rumors: Rangers Interested in Garza

The rumor mill at this year's winter meetings seems to be going strong, with the latest Rangers rumor coming courtesy of Ed Price. Price said that if the Rangers fail to re-sign left handed ace Cliff Lee and can't come to an agreement with the Kansas City Royals for a trade for Zack Greinke that the Rangers will make a run at trading for Matt Garza of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Garza went 15-10 for the Rays this season, posting a 3.91 ERA, 1.25 WHIP with 150 SO / 63 BB in 204.2 IP. Garza's 6.6 K/9 in 2010 is a pretty healthy regression from the 8.38 K/9 he posted in 2009. Garza has struggled the past two years with the long ball as well, surrendering 53 home runs the past two seasons.

It's unknown what prospects Texas would have to surrender to acquire Garza, but hopefully it's nobody that Texas would miss. Garza is a nice pitcher, but he's a few steps down from Zack Greinke and even more steps down from Cliff Lee.
