YES Network: Yankees Skeptical About Signing Cliff Lee

According to Jack Curry of the YES Network, New York Yankees officials are expressing skepticism about Cliff Lee being in pinstripes next April.

Sources told Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal earlier this week that a decision from Lee would be made this weekend. With half the weekend nearly over, there’s been nothing from Lee or his agent to suggest that he will make his decision over the next 30 hours.

Jon Heyman reported earlier today that Texas’ latest offer to Lee included a team option for a seventh season, meaning six guaranteed years have been offered to Lee. Lee told Rangers teammates last weekend that a guaranteed sixth year would bring him back to Texas. Lee may not have anticipated at the time that New York would be willing to offer seven guaranteed years, however.

Curry’s reported skepticism from the Yankees front office is somewhat surprising, especially since the New York and Northeast media outlets have been essentially counting down the days until Lee officially becomes a New York Yankee.
