Texas Rangers Top 10 Prospects Released By Baseball America

New, 2 comments

Baseball America has been releasing its top 10 prospects for each team in the MLB, starting with the American League for the past month or so. Today, it was the Texas Rangers turn to have their farm system featured, ranked and discussed by those over at Baseball America.

It's not surprising to see Martin Perez at the top of the list even with his struggles. A small glimpse of what Aaron Fitt and Baseball America had to say on Perez:

There aren't many lefthanders who can match Perez's potential with three pitches, not even in the major leagues. His fastball velocity has increased from the mid-80s when he signed to 91-95 mph with good sink when he's at his best. He did sit around 89-92 for much of last summer before regaining velocity toward the end of the season.

Baseball America projects Perez to begin 2011 in AAA Round Rock - and they still project him to be a "true ace."

The rest of the Rangers' top 10 is as follows:

2. Jurickson Profar, SS
3. Tanner Scheppers, RHP
4. Robbie Erlin, LHP
5. Engle Beltre, OF
6. Michael Kirkman, LHP
7. Mike Olt, 3B
8. Luis Sardinas, SS
9. Jake Skole
10. Miguel de los Santos, LHP
