ESPN.com With Some Numbers On C.J. Wilson

Richard Durrett of ESPN DFW passes along some some stats on C.J. Wilson's start last night. The two that were most interesting to me.

↵
* Wilson's usage of the fastball was his second-highest since May (76%), and he mixed spots well. In his last 10 starts, 54% of fastballs had been low; Thursday that was just 41%.
↵
* Off-speed pitches were unhittable; 25 of them and the Rays went 0-for-8, missed five of their seven swings against Wilson's curve, and only had two balls that were "well-hit" (both fly-ball outs).
↵

Of course they only had two hits all night on his 60 or so fastballs, so none on 25 off-speed pitches isn't so out-of-line. He obviously game-planned to use his fastball up as his key weapon in the Trop, which I suppose makes sense on multiple levels but was just a bit risky, particularly early.
