Oregon State leads Texas 20-10 at halftime of the 2012 Alamo Bowl. The teams struggled to shake off four weeks of rust. Vaz threw an interception on his first pass attempt, setting up a Texas field goal attempt that was blocked by the Beavers. Oregon State converted the recovered field goal attempt into a field goal of its own. Texas replied with a field goal of its own, after recovering a Vaz fumble.
Oregon State finally put together a sustained drive late in the first quarter, going 75 yards in 12 plays and ending in a Storm Woods 12-yard touchdown run to take a 10-3 lead. Texas went three-and-out in their next possession, but an offsides penalty on the punt attempt gave the Longhorns new life. Texas immediately cashed in on Oregon State's mistake, as Marquise Goodwin took an end around 64 yards for a touchdown to tie the game.
Oregon State took the ensuing kickoff 58 yards for a go-ahead field goal. Vaz suffered an apparent ankle injury during the series while taking a sack, and was removed from the game. Backup quarterback Sean Mannion led the team on a five-play touchdown drive, capped with a nine-yard run by Terron Woods, extending the lead to ten points. Vaz returned for the team's final drive of the half.
Vaz was 8/16 for 118 yards and an interception. Woods has 98 yards on 15 carries and a score. Tight end Connor Hamlett has caught four passes for 58 yards.
