The Texas Longhorns were able to win their opening game of the 2012-13 season, as they outlasted the Fresno St. Bulldogs 55-53 on Friday night.
The game was won for Texas when Sheldon McClellan hit a pair of free throws with eight seconds left in the game to give the Longhorns a 54-50 lead. McClellan was a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line to lead all players with 20 points.
Both teams battled all evening, but the game was not played particularly well, since neither team was shooting the ball well. Texas was 18-of-49 from the field and from beyond three-point range they were just 1 of 12.
Fresno State was not much better as they were 21-of-58 from the field, and 5-of-19 from beyond the arc. The difference in this game was the free throw shooting, Texas had 11 more attempts than Fresno State, and made 11 more as well.
Fresno State was led in scoring by Marvelle Harris who scored just 11 points.
