West Virginia vs. Texas 2012: Game time, TV schedule, odds and more

David Ash and Geno Smith will clash in a great quarterbacking battle when the Texas Longhorns host the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday.

Spruce Derden-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Geno Smith and the West Virginia Mountaineers impressed a lot of people with their 70-point, record-setting performance against the Baylor Bears. They'll get a tougher test in their next game when they face the far-better defense of the Texas Longhorns.

Texas will counter the Geno Smith-led offense of the Mountaineers with David Ash, a similarly efficient quarterback. Ash isn't quite in the Heisman conversation like Smith is, but he has done well to lead the Longhorns to a 4-0 record. Ash has not completed fewer than 70 percent of his passes in a game this season and completed 30 of 37 passes for 304 yards and three touchdowns against the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

It will be up to the two defenses to stop the powerful quarterbacking duel, and Texas looks to have the advantage in that category. The Longhorns has allowed 84 points through their first four games, while the Mountaineers have allowed a more porous 130.

This will be only the second ever meeting between the two teams. WVU won 7-6 the last time the two met, in 1956.

Game time, TV channel: 6 p.m. CT, FOX

Point spread: Texas is favored by 6.5 points.
