As has been customary in recent weeks for the Baylor Bears and Texas Longhorns, both defenses struggled to slow the opposing offenses, but it was the Bears that jumped out to a 21-14 lead.
Texas put up the game's first points as Daje Johnson ran 84 yards for a score on the first play from scrimmage in the game. Less than four minutes later, the Longhorns turned the ball over on downs deep in their own territory after a snap went over the head of their punter. Baylor took advantage of the golden opportunity with a game-tying touchdown on the very next snap, as quarterback Nick Florence ran eight yards for a score.
Texas responded with a nine-play, 72 yard drive that finished with a 15-yard touchdown run by Joe Bergeron. Baylor reciprocated with a nine-play drive of their own of 75 yards, that concluded with a two-yard touchdown run by Glasco Martin.
Baylor earned their first lead of the game shortly thereafter by forcing Texas to a three-and-out and scoring on the first play following the punt. Florence connected with Terrence Williams for an 80-yard touchdown pass to give the Bears a 21-14 that they held for the remainder of the quarter.
