Oklahoma Regents Rubber Stamp Possible Move, Texas Meets Late Monday Afternoon

Oklahoma University regents have given school president David Boren the authority to make make a move away from the Big 12 if he should decide to do so. OU’s board met Monday amid speculation that the Sooners will soon apply for admission into the Pac-12.

Oklahoma State University has scheduled a meeting for their board of regents for Wednesday, and later on Monday we could have word that the University of Texas will grant William Powers the same ability. The Longhorns, of course, have a more complicated situation due to their new Longhorn Network and most major conferences’ restrictions on individual school networks.

According to the Austin American Statesman, talks on that have been ongoing over the weekend, as Texas visited UCLA. According to the Statesman, Texas would be able to retain the network with some programming changes.

Under Pac-12 bylaws that created six regional networks pairing the conference schools, Texas would add Texas Tech in its network and include some Pac-16 content in the LHN programming. The network would probably carry the Pac-16 name.

The Longhorns would be able to keep all of their revenue from the LHN if that amount is greater than one-sixteenth of what the entire Pac-12 receives for its third-tier rights.
