The AP released its preseason top 25 rankings for college football, and as expected, the Oklahoma Sooners sit on top of the poll, accumulating 36 first place votes. Alabama, Oregon, LSU and Boise State round out the top five. Texas A&M is the second highest Big 12 team ranked - even if they did try to leave the Big 12 - coming in at No. 8. Underdog darlings and defending Rose Bowl champions TCU sit at No. 14 in the preseason rankings.
Notably absent are the Texas Longhorns, who are not in the AP's preseason poll for the first time since 1998. The Longhorns had a disappointing season last year with a 5-7 record. Texas also lost their defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, who was the head coach in waiting at Texas, as he bolted to Gainsville to take the head coaching position with the Florida Gators. Texas will look to prove they belong in the top 25 when their season opens on September third against Rice.
TCU will open up their season on September 2, when they head to Waco to take on Baylor. The Sooners open up the season on September 3, as they play host to Tulsa while Texas A&M's season opens up on September 4, as they take on SMU.
