The true first round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament has its first final: the West Virginia Mountaineers defeated the Clemson Tigers, 84-76. Of course, some will say that the first round began a few days ago with the play-in games, but you and I both know that's simply a farce.
Anyway, I doubt if too many brackets were messed up with the West Virginia victory - I'd be shocked if many took Clemson to win as the token 12-5 upset of the first round.
Clemson did, however, start out particularly strong but West Virginia came roaring back to end the first half tied at 40 before outscoring the Tigers 44-36 in the decisive second half.
It's pretty fitting that the Big East receives the first win of the 2011 NCAA Tournament as well, given that the Big East has been the best conference all season long and has a record 11 teams participating in the tournament.
