2011 NCAA Tournament: Texas A&M Aggies Earn Seven Seed

The Texas A&M Aggies are headed out to the Southwest region for the 2011 NCAA tournament. The Aggies were named a seven-seed in the Southwest region, and will take on the Florida State Seminoles in their first game of the tournament.

The Aggies have posted a 24-8 record thus far, going 1-1 in the Big 12 tournament. Texas A&M defeated Missouri in the quarterfinals of the tournament before losing to the Texas Longhorns in the semifinals.

Florida State has gone 21-10 on the year so far and lost in the ACC quarterfinals to Virginia Tech. Florida State’s best win on the year was a win over the Duke Blue Devils, who claimed one of the four No. 1 seeds in the tournament. The Seminoles also nearly defeated the North Carolina Tar Heels, but fell short, losing 72-70 on March 2nd.

The Aggies will face a tall task should the seedings hold and they win their matchup against Florida State. Notre Dame is the two-seed in the Southwest region, and the Fighting Irish had a case for one of the four number one seeds in the tournament. Notre Dame’s loss to Louisville in the semifinals of the Big East tournament likely cost them the No. 1 seed.
