NCAA Basketball Rankings: Texas Falls To No. 5

Both the college basketball AP and Coaches polls are out today, and Texas' loss to Nebraska has cost them four slots. They were likely to ascend to the top spot after Kansas' bad loss in Manhattan, but after failing to come back late in Lincoln, the Longhorns fell below Duke - who returns to the top spot in both polls - and Pittsburgh in the AP rankings, as well as the Jayhawks and Ohio State, who sit in the second and third spots in both polls. Pittsburgh passes Texas despite being upset by St. Johns Saturday. They also received the second most first place votes (12) despite the loss. In the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll, San Diego St. passed Texas, with Pittsburgh at #6.

Texas A&M ranks #17 in the coaches poll and #21 in the AP. Missouri ranks 21st and 20th, respectively. No other Big 12 school received votes in either poll.

Texas has four more games prior to the Big 12 tournament. This week they host Iowa St. Tuesday and travel to Colorado Saturday. They will then welcome recent rival Kansas State and finish their schedule in Waco, as Baylor will attempt to sway the selection committee with a final strong win.
