Signing Day 2011: Oklahoma, A&M Close Gap On Texas

What looked like a rankings blowout for the University of Texas in what has been the Big 12 South leading into Signing Day narrowed as the day went on. As some of the top players in the nation joined top classes, Texas sunk from second to fifth on's rankings by this afternoon, trailing Alabama, USC, Auburn and Florida State. LSU also closed to within a few points of Texas this afternoon with the addition of Jermauria Rasco.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma jumped from the low teens to number 13, Texas Tech held steady at 19, Texas A&M jumped into the top 30 at #28 with a few late wins, and Oklahoma State finished at #29. Baylor brought up the rear, but still finished in Rivals' top 50 at #47.

Locally, TCU capitalized on its dream season that included an undefeated season, a Rose Bowl victory over Big 10 power Wisconsin, a #2 finish in the polls, and an imminent move to the Big East conference with a class ranked #27. Gary Patterson signed Rival's seventh ranked player in Texas: LaDarius Brown, an "athlete" from Waxahachie. SMU looks set to continue marching toward relevancy, as June Jones signed the country's 50th ranked class, a monster 28-member group supplemented heavily by talent from California.
