Sheldon McClellan scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Texas Longhorns defeated Texas Arlington by a score of 80-62. The Longhorns took a seven point lead into halftime before turning it on in the second half and outscoring the Mavericks by 11 down the stretch.
McClellan finished 8 of 11 from the field including 4 of 6 from beyond-the-arc. Julien Lewis and Myck Kabongo finished with 13 points while J'Covan Braown and Alexis Wangmene added 10 points and seven rebounds. Texas hit 48 percent of its shots despite shooting 6-25 from three point range.
Texas Arlington was led by Kevin Butler's 12 points and six rebounds. Jorge Redmon added 11 points while Bo Ingram finished with eight. The Mavericks turned the ball over 14 times in the game and also committed 21 personal fouls.
The win improves Texas' record to 6-2 on the season and 5-0 at home.
