The Texas Longhorns lost one of their most important players today, as Orangebloods' Geoff Ketchum is reporting that freshmen WR Jaxon Shipley has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Texas Tech after injuring his knee in last week's game against Kansas:
gkketch Geoff KetchumJust got more confirmation that freshman receiver Jaxon Shipley will not play Saturday against Texas Tech. Could return next week.
Belying his inexperience, the true freshmen has been a dependable safety net for the Longhorns' two young QB's this season. The 6'1 180 WR leads the team's wide-outs with 33 receptions for 438 yards and 3 TD's.
Without Shipley, sophomore Mike Davis will be the team's main target in the passing game, although Texas will likely use an even more run-oriented game-plan this week then they did against Kansas last week.
The Red Raiders gave up 144 yards rushing to Iowa State last weekend, and the Longhorns' stable of running backs (Fozzy Whitaker, Malcolm Brown, Joe Bergeron and D.J. Monroe) are all expected to get carries on Saturday.
Shipley's injury isn't considered that serious, and he should be back for the Missouri game on Nov. 12.
