UConn Hangs On, Defeats Texas 82-81 In Overtime

The Texas Longhorns gave the ninth-ranked Connecticut Huskies all they could handle, but ultimately fell short of knocking off the Huskies. UConn held on to defeat Texas 82-81 in overtime.

The Longhorns had an 81-80 lead in overtime after Jordan Hamilton hit a jumper with 1:18 to go. The score remained the same with 16 seconds to play when UConn called a timeout. Kemba Walker then hit the go-ahead shot, putting UConn up 82-81 with five seconds left to play.

Texas called a timeout at midcourt with 2.9 seconds to play, but Cory Joseph could not connect on what would have been a game winning three point shot as time expired, sealing the win for Connecticut.

J’Covan Brown and Hamilton led the Longhorns in scoring with 20 points each while Kemba Walker of the Huskies scored a game high 22 points.

Texas’ next game will come Tuesday as the Longhorns open Big 12 conference play against Texas Tech.
