Margus Hunt nearing NCAA blocked kicks record

If you read that SMU senior defensive end Margus Hunt has blocked 16 field goals and PATs in his career and think, "Wow, that's a lot," that's because it is. In fact, it's tied for second-most in college football history.

Hunt is three shy of the NCAA record of 19 for most blocked kicks of any kind. As Keith Whitmire of Fox Sports Southwest writes, Hunt has a chance to leave college football as the sport's greatest kick blocker.

Hunt, from Estonia, came to SMU as a track star and had never played football. The 6'8 senior didn't even know how to play the game:

"I just went in there and I just did what the coaches told me to do," Hunt said. "They told me to line up and just hit it, so that's what I did. It was working out pretty good and ever since I've just been keeping up with it."

The Mustangs have nine games left on their schedule (including one against rival TCU this weekend), which should give Hunt ample opportunity at the record.
