TCU vs. West Virginia 2012: Trevone Boykin learning the hard way

Horned Frogs freshman quarterback Trevone Boykin has experienced growing pains against tough opponents.

TCU Horned Frogs quarterback Trevone Boykin has started four games against strong Big 12 opponents in what has been a trial by fire for the freshman signal-caller so far this season.

At his press conference this week, head coach Gary Patterson talked about Boykin's understanding of the pressures of starting, saying, "Trevone understands this; the margin of error against good teams is gone. The competition level in the Big 12 is better; it's the margin of error is smaller. We can't throw two picks and win.

"The attention to detail, why we do this on the field, it all matters."

Boykin, who is starting in place of the suspended Casey Pachall, has been up-and-down in his four starts under center. In last week's 36-14 loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Boykin completed 21-of-40 throws for 185 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Since his first start, Boykin has thrown 10 touchdowns and six interceptions.

West Virginia hosts the Horned Frogs on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. The game can be seen on Fox.
