The start of the 2012 season didn't go exactly as planned for SMU, who were whipped all over the field in a 59-24 loss to Baylor on Sunday.
However, with home game against Texas A&M and TCU still to come in the month of September, the Mustangs don't have much time to feel sorry for themselves. As a result, their second-week home game this Saturday against FCS school Stephen F. Austin is their only game this month where they'll be expected to win.
Garrett Gilbert, the former UT QB, was inconsistent in his first game in June Jones offense, but he also showed flashes of the talent that made him the most highly-touted QB in the country coming out of college. Gilbert completed 34-59 passes for 286 yards, 2 TD's and 2 INT's against the Bears.
The Mustangs WR's struggled to get open against the bigger and more athletic Baylor defense, so we may see a bigger role for true freshman WR Gehrig Dietr, who had 3 catches for 64 yards and 1 TD late in the game.
