Despite having only met twice in the last 17 seasons since the close of the Southwest Conference, the in-state matchup between SMU and Texas A&M has plenty of history. In matchup No. 79 between the two teams, the Aggies will be looking for their first win of the season after Hurricane Isaac postponed their debut against Louisiana Tech and the No. 18 Florida Gators spoiled their debut in the SEC.
After a 59-24 loss to the Baylor Bears, the SMU Mustangs are back in business after winning 52-0 against Stephen F. Austin. With former Texas Longhorns quarterback Garrett Gilbert at the helm of June Jones' offense, the Mustangs can certainly score points and will need to if they hope to upset the Aggies.
The Aggies, on the other hand, showed some promise in the first half of their game against UF, led by freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel. However, they blew their 17-7 lead, giving up 13 unanswered points, to earn a loss in their opener. A more consistent offensive performance on Saturday against the Mustangs should be enough to serve up the Aggies their first win of the season.
