Craig James Is Not The Best Politician

Craig James hasn't really been great at anything since he left SMU nearly 30 years ago. His professional career wasn't really noteworthy, and his broadcasting career was mediocre at best. Not even good enough for ESPN to renew his contract, apparently.

So he goes on this run for Kay Bailey Hutchison's U.S. Senate seat in Texas, which really hasn't gone all that well, considering the more people get to know James, the less they seem to like him.

SB Nation's legal and political contributor Bobby Big Wheel has a really interesting post on the subject right here.

It highlights James' half-ass effort to reach the Senate after realizing ESPN was going to can him.

Check out James and this goofy "America is great" ad he appears in, where as Bobby notes, James doesn't interact much with anyone but his wife and some dude with his short-sleeved button down tucked into his slacks.

Video after the jump.

Craig James has to still generate a decent level of popularity in Texas just based off the obsession with football alone, but his rush-job political campaign can't stand against the guys that are doing this for real.

Take Maryland senator Ben Cardin, for example:

Here he's interacting with a hard working citizen who can speak to his legitimacy as a candidate. Or at the very least, he gives off the impression of being something other than an empty suit.

James is still learning, though, right?
