The SMU Mustangs hold a 28-6 lead over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at halftime of Saturday's season finale at Gerald Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
Quarterback Garrett Gilbert has thrown for a touchdown and rushed for another for the Mustangs, who appear to be well on their way to bowl eligibility. Gilbert has completed just 4-of-15 passes, but a 25-yard strike to Der'rikk Thompson gave SMU a 21-0 lead. After Tulsa got on the board on Cody Green's nine-yard touchdwon pass to Alex Singleton, Gilbert ran straight up the middle for a 74-yard score to put SMU back up by three touchdowns.
The Golden Hurricane outgained the Mustangs in the opening half, 198-171, but Tulsa was hurt by a fumble and an interception, and also turned the ball over on downs after a 17-play drive late in the half.
Tulsa entered the game unbeaten in Conference USA play, with a 9-2 record overall. Even if they lose, they still have a date in the conference championship game with, most likely, the UCF Knights, who are routing the UAB Blazers, 35-10 at halftime in Orlando, Fla.
